The MLK Day 5K Drum Run - Birmingham is presented by The Leftover Energy Foundation Inc. and is scheduled for Saturday, January 17, 2026 in the Fourth Avenue Historic District (History Park), 1700 4th Ave North, Birmingham, AL 35203. The event will be held in person and virtually and includes the following distances:
- 1 Mile Fun Run/Walk - YOUTH
- 1 Mile Fun Run/Walk - ADULT
- 5K
- 10K
The 5K and 10K are chip timed and are USATF certified (5K: AL24029JE; 10K: AL24030JE). The 1 Mile Fun Run/Walk is not timed. The race features drumline performances along the course; each drumline receives a donation to its band booster association. The event provides a race goodie bag that includes the official MLK Day 5K Drum Run shirt.
Course, beneficiaries and logistics
Courses travel through Birmingham landmarks and neighborhoods including the Civil Rights District, 4th Avenue Historic Business District, The Switch, Park District, Rotary Trail, Birmingham Green, Automotive Historic District, Jones Valley Trail and Avondale. The race returns $5.00 of each registered team member's fee to approved team beneficiaries. Packet pick-up is scheduled for Friday, January 16, 2026 at the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute (The Commons area next to the gift shop).
