MLK Day 5K Drum Run - Birmingham
The MLK Day 5K Drum Run - Birmingham is an annual in-person and virtual road race presented by The Leftover Energy Foundation Inc. It takes place on January 17, 2026, with start and finish at History Park, 1700 4th Ave North, in the Fourth Avenue Historic District of Birmingham’s Civil Rights District. The event features drumline performances positioned along the race course; each participating drumline receives a donation to its booster association. The race benefits participating drumlines, scholarships for drumline graduating seniors, and approved community teams and organizations.

The 5K and 10K courses are USATF certified (5K: AL24029JE; 10K: AL24030JE) and are chip timed by a professional timing company. The 1 Mile Fun Run/Walk is not timed and is open to all ages; children 12 and under may enter the youth category. The course routes pass through the Civil Rights District, 4th Avenue Historic Business District, The Switch, The Park District, The Rotary Trail, Birmingham Green, the Automotive Historic District, Jones Valley Trail, and Avondale. Registered teams receive $5.00 back to their approved organization for each team member who registers. Registration fees listed for earlier and later deadlines are published on the race site; registered participants receive a race shirt and a race goodie bag.
