MLK Day Drum Run - Birmingham
The MLK Day Drum Run in Birmingham takes place on January 16, 2027, at 1700 4th Ave North, Birmingham, AL 35203. Presented by The Leftover Energy Foundation Inc., the event is offered in both in-person and virtual formats and marks the 10th annual running.
Event distances include:
- 1 Mile Fun Run/Walk, Youth (ages 12 and younger)
- 1 Mile Fun Run/Walk, Adult (ages 13 and older)
- 5K timed event, USATF certified #AL24029JE
- 10K timed run, USATF certified #AL24030JE
The 5K and 10K are timed races with race numbers provided; the 10K is a run-only event and will start with the 5K. The 1 Mile Fun Run/Walk events are not timed and do not use race numbers. T-shirts and finisher medals are included for the 5K and 10K. The youth 1 Mile includes a child-size t-shirt; the adult 1 Mile does not include a shirt but has an optional purchase. Strollers are welcomed and parents or guardians are encouraged to walk with children.
Musical drumline groups perform along the full race course, and each drumline receives a donation to its band booster association. The event includes a warm up, on-course music, official timing, sponsors, and a race goodie bag with the official event shirt for race entrants.
