XTERRA WETSUITS Mission Bay Triathlon, San Diego, October 11, 2026
The XTERRA WETSUITS Mission Bay Triathlon takes place at Mission Bay in San Diego and serves as event number 3 of the San Diego Triathlon Series and the Triple Crown of Triathlon. The event is the host of the 2026 USA Triathlon State Championships and includes Age Group, High School, and Club Championship divisions.
Races offered on the day include Olympic-distance and sprint triathlons, duathlon, aquabike, aquathlon, relay events, a Mission Bay 5K, a Mini Sprint for younger athletes, and an Itsy Bitsy race for children. The event runs multiple race formats concurrently to create a multisport program for adults and youth.
State Championship details include the right for first place winners in each age group, high school, and special category to purchase the official California State Championship jersey. Club State Championships run alongside individual competitions and can result in a Top Club designation and a Club State Champion banner from USA Triathlon. Qualification rules specify that Sprint Triathlon results qualify for Sprint Nationals and International or Olympic-distance results qualify for Olympic-Distance Nationals; qualification is by top 35 percent of finishers or the top five athletes, whichever is greater. State Championships held after June 1, 2026 qualify athletes for both 2026 and 2027 nationals.
The 2026 edition is the 38th annual event, benefits the Life Sports Foundation, and notes San Diego as the birthplace of triathlon with the first Mission Bay race on Fiesta Island in 1974.
