Millinocket Marathon & Half
The Millinocket Marathon & Half is a volunteer-organized road race held in Millinocket, Maine. The event began in 2015 to support the local community after the closing of a major mill employer, and it has grown into an annual celebration of the Katahdin Region. The race uses USATF-certified courses that create qualifying opportunities for major marathons.
The event is offered without a formal entry fee; participants are strongly encouraged to make an optional donation at registration. Donations are used to cover essential race expenses such as timing, course certification, portable toilets, bus transportation, and insurance. Funds raised beyond those needs are donated to local charitable groups and organizations. The race organizers estimate the event contributes approximately $2.5M to $3M annually to the local economy.
Race day logistics include a start area at Veterans Memorial Park and a finish at 33 Penobscot Avenue. There is no parking near the start and finish; a continuous loop bus service is provided from several nearby pickup locations. The race is produced entirely by unpaid volunteers. Registration may close without notice and no new registrations are accepted after November 1st for the listed year. The next scheduled edition is on Saturday, December 5, 2026.
