40th Annual Milkman Triathlon
The 40th Annual Milkman Triathlon is a sprint-distance multisport event held in Dexter, New Mexico. The race takes place on a course that utilizes several local landmarks and natural areas. Participants begin the event with a swim in Lake Van. This is followed by a cycling segment that heads toward Bottomless Lakes State Park. The final portion is a run through the Southwestern Native Aquatic Resources & Recovery Center.
Athletes can select from the following event categories:
- SOLOIST (0.5k swim, 20k bike, 5k run)
- Mixed RELAY (teams must be mixed gender to qualify for awards)
- CHS
The competition follows USA Triathlon (USAT) regulations. Key rules include mandatory helmet use while in possession of a bicycle, a prohibition on unauthorized assistance, and specific non-drafting cycling rules. Participants must wear their race numbers visibly during the run and are prohibited from using communication devices in a distractive manner. Glass containers are not permitted in the transition area.
Packet pickup is available at the lake office on the evening before the race and on the morning of the event. Participants are required to present identification and a USAT card. Upon reaching the finish line, chocolate milk and ice cream are provided to the finishers. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
