Miles for Merrick - Bushland
Miles for Merrick is a community athletic event held in Amarillo, Texas. This inaugural edition features two distinct options for participants:
- 1 mile walk or run
- 3.1 miles (5k) competitive race
The event is organized to raise awareness for lissencephaly pachygyria, a rare neurological and genetic disorder that impacts brain development. It is inspired by the strength of children and families living with conditions requiring specialized care and attention. The primary objective of the gathering is to foster community support and make a meaningful impact through physical activity.
A portion of the proceeds from the event is designated for the Turn Center in Amarillo. This nonprofit organization provides therapy services and support to children with developmental challenges to help them reach their potential. The Amarillo Lone Star Runners Club is responsible for providing timing services for the participants. The event is open to both competitive runners and casual walkers.
