Midwinter Mortimer Trail
The Midwinter Mortimer Trail is a winter trail running event on Sunday 27th December 2026 that follows sections of the Mortimer Trail between the market towns of Ludlow, Shropshire and Kington, Herefordshire. The event includes mixed trail, forest and road running along ridges, hills and valleys in the borderland country of England and Wales.
The route passes through the Marches and includes extensive forests, limestone tops and gentle pastures. The area was dominated in medieval times by the Mortimer family, and the course traces landscapes shaped by that history and by natural hill and valley form.
Two course options are offered:
- about 30 miles Ultra multi terrain route from Ludlow Castle to Kington.
- half Croft Half follows the last half of the Ultra route, starting at the Riverside Inn, Aymestrey.
The event is described as the sister event to the Midsummer Mortimer Trail. Entries open 1st June. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
