Midwinter Mortimer Trail 2026
The Midwinter Mortimer Trail is an off-road running and walking event organised by Andali Events across the Marches landscape between Ludlow and Kington. It is a no-frills, self-navigating trail that follows sections of the Mortimer Trail and passes forests, limestone tops, gentle pastures, hills and ridges. The longer route starts at Ludlow Castle and finishes in the market town of Kington. The shorter Croft route starts at the Riverside Inn in Aymestrey and finishes in Kington.
The course crosses the valleys of the rivers Teme, Lugg and Arrow and includes features such as Mary Knoll Valley, the High Vinnals, Orleton Common, Croft Ambrey and Wapley hill fort, while also passing through several villages. Surfaces are mixed trail, field and road with some strenuous climbs.
Estimated times for the routes are given as ranges for both walking and running. Entry age limits and fees are published for each course and an athletes guide is provided before the event. The event is part of the Wild Shropshire Ultra Series, a three-event series across the Shropshire Hills where completion of all three events earns a unique medal and a prize for the fastest combined time. Transport from Kington to start points is available for a separate fee. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
