Cocking Trail Races
The Cocking Trail Races take place within the South Downs National Park, offering participants a hilly course through the scenic West Sussex countryside. Hosted at the Cadence Cycle Club Café in Cocking, the event features a variety of distances held primarily on footpaths and bridleways, with some short sections on quiet country lanes.
Participants can choose from the following distances:
- 20 km Senior Race
- 10 km Senior Race
- 5 km Junior Race (ages 11-15)
- 3 km Junior Race (ages 6-11)
The routes begin at Cocking Hilltop and involve a steady climb across the Cowdray Estate. The courses traverse the West Dean Estate and provide views across the South Downs, extending toward the South Coast and the Isle of Wight. Notable landmarks along the way include the derelict medieval village site of West Monkton and the Bronze Age site known as The Devil's Jumps, which is passed by the 20 km runners.
The event is organized under UK Athletics rules and is licensed by the Trail Running Association. The course is fully marshaled and signposted, with dedicated water stations located at approximately 4 km for the 10 km race and an additional stop at 12 km for the 20 km distance. Podium prizes and age category awards are presented for the senior and junior races. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
