Cocking Trail Races : South Downs trail running
The Cocking Trail Races take place in the South Downs National Park, with senior race options on predominantly footpaths and bridleways and a small amount of quiet country lane. The event base is at the Cadence Cycle Club Café in Cocking and the route starts at Cocking Hilltop before crossing the Cowdray Estate, passing west of the Flint Barn Café, then running across the South Downs and the West Dean Estate. The course includes sustained climbs, open ridgeline sections with scenic views, and faster descents. The 20 km route passes the Devil's Jumps Bronze Age site and parts of the route pass the derelict medieval village of West Monkton.
Race support and categories are specified: the route is signposted and marshalled throughout and water stations are provided (one for the 10 km at about 4 km, with an additional stop for the 20 km at about 12 km). There are podium prizes and age category awards for both senior races. Junior trail races are held over shorter distances with prize categories. The event is licensed by the Trail Running Association and held under UK Athletics rules.
