Event Overview
The Annual MI Hot Dog Mile is a unique running event held at Eastern Market in Detroit. Conceived by the Eastern Market Brewing Run Club, the competition combines running with food consumption, following a format similar to a beer mile. Proceeds from the event, after covering operational costs, are donated to a local Detroit Dog Rescue organization.
The event features several participation options:
- Hot Dog Mile (Individual Wave 1)
- Hot Dog Mile (Individual Wave 2)
- Hot Dog Mile (Individual Wave 3)
- Hot Dog Mile Relay (Wave 4)
Participant Experience
The individual event requires participants to complete four 1/4 mile laps. For each lap, runners must eat one hot dog, totaling four hot dogs and a full mile of running. The relay option allows teams of four to participate, with each member tackling one lap and one hot dog.
The gathering includes on-site entertainment provided by a DJ and features adoptable dogs. Beer is available for participants at the conclusion of the race. Spectator tickets are also available for those who wish to attend without competing. All participants receive race swag as part of their registration.
The event serves as a fundraiser and a community gathering at 2515 Riopelle Street, supporting local animal welfare while celebrating the Detroit running scene. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
