The Merthyr Half Marathon
The Merthyr Half Marathon is an annual running event organized by Merthyr Running Club. The race takes place on an undulating course that leads participants around Merthyr Tydfil and the surrounding countryside. The route primarily utilizes the Trevithick trail and the Taff Trail. While the surface is predominately road and tarmac, the course also includes a small trail section.
The race follows a layout that begins and ends at Merthyr College. The facility provides participants with access to a baggage drop and toilet facilities. Runners must complete the course within a designated cut-off time of 4 hours. Race packs are not delivered by mail; instead, they must be collected on-site either the day before the event or on the morning of the race.
The event offers the following distances:
- Half Marathon (13.1 miles)
- Junior Fun Run (open to ages 8 to 16)
- Mini Fun Run (open to ages 4 to 7, must be accompanied by an adult)
All entrants in the half marathon receive a finishers medal, a t-shirt, and a goody bag. Participants in the Mini and Junior Fun Runs also receive a medal for completing their respective events.
