Memorial Day Apple Pie 5K and Ice-cream Mile Run
The Memorial Day Apple Pie 5K and Whit's Ice Cream Mile is an annual event held at the Spanish River Athletic Fields in Boca Raton, Florida. The event marks its 41st year and provides several running distances for different age groups and interests. Proceeds from the event benefit K9s for Warriors, an organization that provides service dogs to veterans with PTSD or traumatic brain injury.
Participants can choose from several distances:
- 5K Run
- 1 Mile Run
- 100 Yards (Kids Race)
The 5K race is open to all ages, with specific registration categories for those 16 and under. Participants in the 5K distance who register by May 20th receive an apple pie and a t-shirt upon finishing. The 1 Mile race is a timed event with age-group awards for participants aged 8 to 15, although it is open to older runners as well. Those who register for the mile by the cutoff date receive ice cream and a t-shirt. The 100 Yards kids race is designed for children aged 8 and under.
The course utilizes Accuchip timing. Awards are presented to the top three overall male and female finishers, the top masters, and the top three finishers in five-year age groups ranging from 10 and under to 70 and over.
