Megan Hammerle Memorial 5K Run/Walk
The Megan Hammerle Memorial 5K Run/Walk takes place on May 9, 2026 at Memorial Park in Lebanon, Indiana. The event is offered as an in-person race and as a virtual option. Registration opens January 29, 2026 and closes April 27, 2026; the registration fee is $30.
The event began in May 2015 to honor Megan Hammerle. Friends from Lebanon High School organized the first run and raised over $10,000 that year for the Megan Suzanne Hammerle Memorial Scholarship. Megan was a 2014 graduate of Lebanon High School and a freshman at DePauw University where she was a Science Research Fellow. She was a four-year member of the high school cross country and track teams and a four-year member of the wind ensemble, jazz, marching and pep bands. She died on February 13, 2015 from a rare form of meningitis.
Since 2021 the race has been operated by Boone County Mentoring Partnership. Over time the event has raised nearly $100,000 to support BCMP efforts to connect young people with caring adults and resources. The 2026 event is presented by RL Turner and Witham Health Services.
