McDowell 5K & Fun Run
The event takes place at Camp McDowell in Nauvoo, Alabama, on 1,140 acres at the edge of the Bankhead National Forest. It offers trail running with a mix of surfaces and a short fun run.
The running options are:
- 5K : about 75% trail and 25% road
- 1 Mile Fun Run
- Both : combined distance listed as 4 miles
The 5K course includes rolling hills with grades up to 12 percent and a balance of sun and shade. The course is measured but not certified; the fun run course is not certified. The event is professionally RFID chip timed by Race Ready Events.
On-course support includes two aid and recovery stations: one at the start/finish area with hydration, first aid, snacks, and electrolytes, and one between mile 1 and mile 2 with water and first aid. Prizes and medals are awarded for overall male and female finishers and for age-group placings in the 5K; the fun run awards the top three overall male and female finishers. Raffles are held on site after the races.
Registration details from the organizer include fees of $40 for the 5K, $20 for the fun run, and $50 to enter both. Runners who register before September 1 are guaranteed a short-sleeve race shirt. Free parking is available and staff will direct vehicles. Strollers, pets, and wheeled devices are not allowed on course. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
