Event details

The Maurice Mullins Ultra is scheduled for Saturday 28 March 2026 in County Wicklow. The course distance is 50.5 km with 2,280+ m of climb. The event is rated as difficulty 10 - Extreme and is part of the Irish Ultra Championships. GPS use is allowed and course marking is limited to only major junctions. Poles are not permitted for this event.

Route and logistics

The race starts from the Pier Gates Car Park (listed as Lough Dan / Lough Tay Carpark on some maps). The route includes climbs over Maulin and Djouce, with those climbs taken on both the outward and return legs. A water and aid station is located at Crone Woods (about 17 km). A drop bag station and turnaround point is at Glencullen Bridge on Boranaraltry Lane (about 27 km). The event is described as self-sufficient; crews are not allowed on the route and spectating at the turnaround point is discouraged due to no parking.

Mandatory kit and other rules

Mandatory kit is Level C - Advanced and must be carried; required items include a waterproof jacket with hood and taped seams, hat or buff, gloves, whistle, charged mobile phone with emergency number stored, foil blanket or bivvy, waterproof full leg cover, means to carry at least 500 mL water, emergency food, map and compass. Failure to carry required items may lead to denied entry or disqualification. Cut-off times will be imposed at aid points.
