Matlock Skyline Challenge for Derby MRT
The Matlock Skyline Challenge is a fundraising event for the Derby Mountain Rescue Team, organized in partnership with Ordnance Survey. Starting from Hall Leys Park in Matlock, the event offers participants the choice of two different distances through the high ground of Matlock and Darley Dale. Participants can choose to walk or run the course and are not required to decide on their specific route until the day of the event.
The course is unmarked, meaning that participants must be able to navigate the terrain or enter with someone who can navigate. The terrain includes moorland, woodland, stone walled meadows, and local villages.
Available distances include:
- 35 km (22 miles) circular route with 1000 meters of ascent, mainly off-road.
- 17 km (11 miles) "Half Skyline" route with 500 meters of ascent.
Participants can complete the challenge solo or in groups. Individuals under the age of 18 are permitted to participate but must be accompanied by an adult over 18 throughout the duration of the event. Should either the minor or the accompanying adult need to retire during the course, both individuals must retire together. All finishers of the challenge receive a certificate upon completion.
