Maryland Indoor 5K and Family Fun Run
The Maryland Indoor 5K takes place inside the Arundel Mills Mall in Hanover, Maryland. This event offers participants the opportunity to complete a race course entirely indoors, utilizing the approximately one-mile loop of the mall corridors before the shopping center opens to the public. The course involves a waved start system to manage spacing and includes specific sections with ramps or short flights of stairs.
The event features several distance options:
- Indoor 5K Course: A 5.1 km run or walk consisting of four full laps around the mall.
- Elite Indoor 5K: A 5 km distance for runners capable of maintaining a pace of 7:30 minutes per mile or faster.
- Family Fun Run: A distance of approximately 1.1 miles including one full lap and one mini-lap.
This is a cupless race to ensure the mall floors remain dry. Participants are required to bring their own lidded water containers, such as bottles or hydration packs, though water fountains and a station at the start/finish line are available. Strollers are permitted only during the Fun Run and must start at the back of the group.
All finishers receive a medal and a event shirt, though shirts are only guaranteed for those who register by February 16. Post-race activities held in the food court area include fitness demonstrations, recovery stretches, and training tips. A portion of the event proceeds benefits the Greater Chesapeake Chapter of Girls on the Run. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
