Marsh Creek Sprint Triathlon
The event is staged at Marsh Creek State Park west of Philadelphia and uses Marsh Creek Lake and park roads for all three legs. Race distances include:
- Triathlon: 750 meter swim, 20K bike, 5K run
- Aquabike: 750 meter swim, 20K bike
The swim is a single rectangular loop inside the 500 acre lake with two yellow triangle buoys and orange sighting buoys placed every 75 to 100 meters. Water temperatures are expected in the low 70s and wetsuits are considered legal; a preliminary reading is posted the Friday before the event and USAT officials take an official reading on race morning.
The bike is a well paved, single loop 20K course with all right turns, a mix of technical sections and long straightaways, and scenery that includes trout streams and forested valleys. The course listing shows an elevation figure of 1,059.7 ft. The run is a one loop 5K contained within the park, routing past the boat ramp and pool area and returning along the lake; aid stations are placed about every mile and the last half mile runs over grass to the finish. The run route elevation figure is listed as 274.9 ft.
The race is USA Triathlon sanctioned and offers multiple scoring categories scored three deep, including Age Group, Masters, Aquabike, Military, Clydesdale, Athena and Relay Teams. Packet pick up is available at the race site on both the day before and the morning of the event and photo ID is required to collect race materials. Bicycles will not be released from transition until the bike cut off time of two hours from the last wave or until the last cyclist returns to transition.
