Marsh Creek Sprint Triathlon
The Marsh Creek Sprint Triathlon is staged at Marsh Creek State Park near Downingtown, PA, just west of Philadelphia and minutes from the Turnpike. The event uses Marsh Creek Lake for the swim and course loops that remain inside or return to the park for transitions.
The race features a time trial swim in the 500 acre Marsh Creek Lake on a single-loop rectangular course with two yellow triangle buoys and orange sighting buoys placed about every 75 to 100 meters. Water temperatures are typically in the low 70s and are expected to allow wetsuits; a preliminary reading is posted the Friday prior and an official USAT reading is taken on race morning.
The bike is a single 20 km loop on well-paved roads with all right-hand turns, a mix of rolling terrain and some technical sections, and an elevation profile shown as about 1,059.7 ft total gain on published route maps. The run is a one-loop 5 km entirely within the park, with lake views, an uphill near mile 2, aid stations approximately every mile, and the final half mile across grass into the finish area.
Categories include Overall, Masters Overall, Age Group, Aquabike, Military, Clydesdale, Athena and Relay Teams. The event is USA Triathlon sanctioned and participants must have current membership or purchase a one-day license. Packet pickup is available at the race site on the day before and the morning of the event; photo ID is required to collect packets. Bicycles will not be released from transition until the bike cutoff (two hours from the last wave) or until the last cyclist has entered transition.
