Marsh Creek Sprint Triathlon
The Marsh Creek Sprint Triathlon is staged at Marsh Creek State Park in Downingtown, Pennsylvania, just west of Philadelphia. The event uses Marsh Creek Lake, a 500 acre reservoir, for the swim and courses that remain inside or alongside the park for bike and run segments.
Distances offered include:
- Triathlon: 750 Meter Swim; 20K Bike; 5K Run
- Aquabike: 750 Meter Swim; 20K Bike
The swim is a single-loop, rectangular course in the lake with two yellow triangle turn buoys and orange sighting buoys placed approximately every 75 to 100 meters. The swim uses a time trial start with athletes starting one at a time. Organizers expect water temperatures in the low 70s and list the swim as wetsuit legal.
The bike is a single 20K loop on well paved roads around the lake and watershed. The course uses all right turns and combines rolling terrain, long straight sections, and some technical sections; cyclists re-enter the park for transition. The course elevation is provided by organizers and the route includes roughly 1,059.7 feet of elevation gain.
The run is a one-loop 5K course entirely within the park, passing the boat ramp and park pool area before following the lake to the finish. Running trails are maintained and aid stations are placed approximately every mile. Transition and race policies are defined by the organizer and the event is sanctioned by USA Triathlon; athletes must hold a membership or purchase a one-day license. Packet pickup is available both the evening before and the morning of the race and photo identification is required to collect race materials.
