The Maple Run Half Marathon and 5K
The Maple Run is a long-standing athletic tradition in St. Lawrence County, held at Bend in the River Park in Canton, New York. The event marks the end of winter and supports local youth running programs. Participants can choose between several road and trail formats, including in-person, virtual, and hybrid options.
The half marathon is a scenic out-and-back course held entirely on roads. Athletes should note that the route remains open to vehicle traffic and features two steeper hills. The 5K course uses a combination of roads through the Village of Canton and the trail system of the St. Lawrence University campus. A hybrid half marathon option is also available, where participants complete 10 miles independently before joining the live 5K pack for the final 3.1 miles.
Available distances include:
- 13.1 miles (In-person, virtual, or hybrid)
- 3.1 miles (In-person or virtual)
In-person and hybrid finishers receive a wooden finisher's medallion and a mini-bottle of maple syrup. All registrants receive a long-sleeve event shirt. The half marathon features overall placement prizes for men, women, and non-binary categories, as well as age-group recognition with special edition keychains. The event is open to wheelchair athletes and special needs strollers. Refreshment stations managed by volunteers are located along the route, and snacks are provided at the finish area.
