It offers a choice of distances and uses a simple out and back course with minimal navigation and only a few road crossings. The trail surface is described as smooth, wide and with very little slippage; the route is largely flat with a few undulations.
Distances offered:
- 42.2 km
- 21.1 km
- 10 km
- 5 km
- 2 km Primary School Challenge
The 2 km Junior Dash is open to children aged 12 and under; all junior finishers receive a medal and the top three in each age group receive trophies. Parents or guardians may accompany children under 10. The junior event is electronically timed.
The event is organised by Mansfield Athletics with support from the Friends of the Great Victorian Rail Trail. Funds raised are directed to the Cancer Council and local health and well-being projects. The location is described as a destination town with nearby Mt Buller and Mt Stirling and access to the rail trail, which offers 134 km of track for visitors and cyclists.
