Event Overview
Makin' Strides for Strays is a fundraising 5K walk or run taking place in Aurora, Illinois. The event supports the A.D.O.P.T. Pet Shelter, which has placed over 30,000 animals into homes since 1989. It features a timed 5 km event.
Course and Activities
The course is a scenic route around Mastodon Lake. Following the 5K, there is a family festival with music, vendors, contests, games, and other family-friendly activities. Pets are welcome to attend the festival and can participate in contests. Live music and food vendors are part of the post-race festivities.
Registration and Awards
Registration includes a t-shirt, a bandana, and a swag bag. Race packet pick-up is available on specific days before the event at the A.D.O.P.T. Pet Shelter and on race day.
Awards are given to the top male and female finishers. Medals are awarded to the first and second place male and female participants in multiple age categories, from 9 & under to 70 & over.
Fundraising
Participants are encouraged to fundraise for the shelter. Fundraising milestones offer incentives such as a crossbody bag, a name on a plaque, or a custom tile at the shelter.
