Makin’ Strides for Strays takes place on Sunday, June 7, 2026, in Aurora, IL, at Phillips Park Main Pavilion (Parker Ave. & Ray Moses Dr.). The event is organized by A.D.O.P.T. Pet Shelter; since 1989 the organization reports it has placed over 30,000 animals into homes. Funds raised support the shelter’s rescue and care work.
Race, festival and logistics
The event features a timed 5K (3.1 miles) walk or run on a scenic course around Mastodon Lake. A family festival at the pavilion follows, with vendors, contests, games, food, live music, and activities. Pets are allowed at the festival.
General registration is listed at $35, with a day-of registration fee of $45. Registration opens March 26, 2026. Race packet pick-up is available on May 29 and May 30 and on race day. Registration includes a Strides t-shirt, an A.D.O.P.T. bandana, a swag bag, and admission while supplies last.
Awards include first place recognitions for top male and female finishers and medals for first and second place male and female finishers in the following age groups: 9 & under, 10-14, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, and 70 & over.
