15th Annual Madison Triathlon

The Madison Triathlon takes place on September 5, 2026, in Ennis, MT. It is an Olympic distance, point-to-point triathlon held at elevation in Southwest Montana, with the route positioned between the Madison Range foothills and the Tobacco Root Mountain Range.

Distances:

  • Swim: 1,200 yards (two laps of a 600-yard rectangular course in Ennis Lake)
  • Bike: 40K mostly on Montana Highway 287
  • Run: 10K from Harrison to Pony

The swim is an open-water course on Ennis Lake using a 600-yard rectangular lap repeated twice. The bike course runs largely along Highway 287 and includes a five-mile uphill section, a five-mile downhill section, and flat portions. The final running leg follows a gentle uphill grade from Harrison and finishes in the town of Pony, a former silver mining town.

The race is the first leg of the Madison Trifecta, a series that combines an Olympic distance triathlon, an Olympic distance duathlon, and a marathon. All three events take place at high elevation in the mountains of Southwest Montana; the Madison Triathlon route lies entirely above 5,000 feet above sea level.
