Mad Trapper Backyard Ultra
Mad Trapper Backyard Ultra takes place on trail loops at The Ark in Denholm, QC (285 ch. de Farrellton). The event offers multiple formats: an individual Last Person Standing on the full loop, a shorter "Kristi Loop", a two person team event on the shorter loop, and a winter snowshoe Backyard Ultra with reduced loop lengths.
The official BYU loop distance is 6.71 km, but the on‑site full loop will be shorter, expected between 5.5 km and 6.0 km. The "Kristi Loop" is about 500 m shorter than the full loop. The winter full course is about 5.5 km and its Kristi variant is under 5 km.
The format requires runners to return to a corral every hour; if a runner is not in the corral when the audio recording calls "Goooooo!", that runner is out. The individual winner is the last person to complete a full loop solo. The two person team race runs on the Kristi Loop, allows flexible exchange strategies, continues until both team members are out, includes Friends and Couples categories, and follows a 16 hour cutoff tied to the individual event. Tie and yard counting rules determine final placings.
Onsite support includes fresh water, an electrolyte drink, and snacks such as bananas, pretzels, and roasted salted potatoes; post race food options are provided. Registered Backyard Ultra runners may camp for free at The Ark; the wilderness campsite includes flat tenting areas, clean outhouses, a firepit, a picnic table, and hauled drinking water. Warm outdoor showers are available for a small fee. Crew are allowed in the transition area only and prerunning the course is not permitted.
