Event overview
Mace's Hideout 100/50 is a mountain trail race held in June in the Wet Mountains of Colorado. The event offers two distances:
- 100 miles
- 50 miles
The race is organized by Tempest Adventures LLC. It operates under a special use permit from the USDA Forest Service and takes place on lands in the San Isabel and Rio Grande National Forests. The route passes through terrain associated with the historic local hideout after which the event is named.
Course and terrain
The course crosses both sides of the Wet Mountains and moves between distinct ecosystems. The east side is wetter, with firs, spruces and lodgepole pines often covered in moss, and higher-elevation alpine meadows with aspen and wildflowers. The west side becomes noticeably drier, with piñon pines, junipers and ponderosa pines, and vegetation such as yucca, cactus and sagebrush. Runners will experience changes in vegetation, climate and landscape as they gain and lose altitude, with views that include nearby mountain ranges.
