Maah Daah Hey Trailrun series

The Maah Daah Hey Trailrun is a multi-distance trail race series held on the Maah Daah Hey Trail in the North Dakota Badlands on July 24 and 25, 2026. Distances offered include:

• 3.1+ Miles
• 6.2+ Miles
• 13.1 Miles
• 26.2+ Miles
• 58 Miles
• 116 Miles

Terrain varies along the route and includes dirt, clay, sandstone and scoria with stretches of prairie grassland and some sparse woods. There is minimal natural cover from the elements. Elevation gain increases with distance, from mostly downhill for the shortest course to about 11,968 feet for the 116 mile event; intermediate examples include 6.2+ at 632 feet and 26.2+ at 2,391 feet.

Aid stations appear roughly every 25 miles and provide water, shaded tents, chairs and porta potties. The course has multiple creek crossings on all distances; the 116 mile out and back course does not cross the Little Missouri River. There are about nine major checkpoints where the trail meets back roads; checkpoints are more frequent on the bottom half of the course and include porta potties and volunteer support.

Shuttles serve certain start locations while the longest events require participants to provide their own transportation to starts and for pickup if needed. Support and gear vehicle information and pacer rules are provided for ultra distances. Finishers receive medals for shorter races and belt buckles for ultra distances, with awards for top finishers and age groups. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
