Maah Daah Hey Trail Run series
The Maah Daah Hey Trail Run series takes place on the Maah Daah Hey Trail through the North Dakota Badlands near Medora on July 24th-25th, 2026. The event offers multiple distances on continuous single-track trail across varied terrain that includes dirt, clay, sandstone and scoria, with prairie grasslands on the butte tops and limited tree cover.
Distances offered include:
- 3.1+ Miles
- 6.2+ Miles
- 13.1 Miles
- 26.2+ Miles
- 56 Miles
- 112 Miles
The course features frequent climbs and descents, multiple creek crossings for every distance, and minimal shelter from the elements. There are about nine road-crossing checkpoints where volunteers can assist; porta potties are provided at checkpoints. Aid stations are placed approximately every 25 miles with tents, water and basic support.
Logistics note that shuttles serve the shorter road access starts, while participants in the longer distances must arrange their own transportation to starts and for retrieval if unable to finish. Pacers are permitted on the longer ultras under specified rules and registration requirements. Finishers of the 5k, 10k, half and marathon receive custom finisher medals; ultra finishers receive custom belt buckles. Top three finishers and age group awards are given for each distance. The 100 mile course uses a 36 hour cutoff. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
