Event Details
The Chinatown YMCA CCHP Lunar New Year Run is a 48th annual event offering in-person and virtual participation options. The 2026 edition celebrates the Year of the Horse. The in-person event is a run/walk through the historic streets of San Francisco's Chinatown, with a course described as having some short hills but being mostly flat.
Distances and Formats
Participants can choose from:
- A 5 km run/walk.
- A 10 km run (walkers are not permitted for this distance).
The in-person race features one loop for the 5 km and two loops for the 10 km. A virtual option allows participants to complete their chosen distance at their own location between specified dates.
Registration and Fees
Registration is offered in Basic and Premium packages for both in-person and virtual formats. Early bird and regular pricing periods are listed. Proceeds support youth and teen programs, social services for low-income families, and financial assistance for Chinatown YMCA programs. The event has a no-refund policy.
Participant Information
All in-person participants receive a t-shirt and a Year of the Horse completion medal. Premium packages include a long-sleeve performance tech shirt. Runners born in a Year of the Horse receive an exclusive enamel pin. Bib and shirt pickup is scheduled for specific dates before the race at the Chinatown YMCA.
The in-person event starts and finishes in the Chinatown area. Post-race activities, including awards and refreshments, are held at Portsmouth Square. Paid parking is available at nearby garages. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
