Lums Pond Triathlon
The Lums Pond Triathlon is staged at Lums Pond State Park in Bear, Delaware and offers Olympic and Sprint distance races on August 8, 2027. The event was sold out the previous year.
The swim takes place in the park’s 200 acre freshwater pond, which averages about 10 feet in depth. Both Sprint and Olympic swim courses are rectangular, with orange sighting buoys about every 75 meters and yellow triangles marking turns. Water temperature is typically in the mid 70s on race day.
The bike courses are flat, use all right-hand turns, and follow smooth pavement around the park. Olympic athletes complete three 6.7 mile loops for a total of 23 miles; Sprint athletes complete a single 6.7 mile loop for a route just over 10 miles.
The run follows heavily forested trails with a mix of single track lake views and wider graveled walking paths. Shaded sections help keep runners cool and aid stations are placed about every mile, serving ice water and Gatorade. Finish-area amenities include post-race food and music.
All races are USA Triathlon sanctioned. Categories include Overall, Masters, Age Group, Aquabike, Military, Clydesdale, Athena, and Relay Teams, with scoring three deep. Race registration is non-refundable; deferral options and a one-day USAT license are available. Packet pickup is offered the day before and on race morning; participants must present photo ID to collect race materials. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
