Loup Garou Trail Run

Loup Garou, pronounced "loo-gah-roo" and named for the Cajun werewolf legend, is an annual December trail running event held at Chicot State Park near Ville Platte. The event includes multiple race distances and a range of race-day services such as staffed aid stations, finish line food, and volunteer support before, during, and after each race.

The event has offered ultra distances and shorter trail races in past years. Examples of distances run at Loup Garou include:

Organizers provide awards and merchandise for finishers, including medals, buckles, and special runner shirts. There is a long-term recognition program with 200 and 500 mile clubs; qualifying runners receive jackets that are custom ordered after the event and mailed later. Volunteers manage aid stations, cooking, and finish-area logistics.

The race has run annually since 2017 and is scheduled to conclude with its tenth edition in 2026. For that final year organizers planned "10th Year" race shirts and swag, revised medals and buckles, and a 2026 Loup Garou Showdown in which past first-place male and female winners are eligible for a free entry into the distance they previously won.
