Lost In The Woods - Nicollet, MN
Lost In The Woods is an off-trail 25 Miler held in Nicollet, Minnesota on June 5, 2027. The entire course lies within the Swan Lake Wildlife Management Area - North Star Unit and is run largely off established trails, often on deer paths.
The race uses a loop format. Each loop is exactly 5.00 miles with a net elevation gain of 0 feet per loop. Participants receive a map and course directions the day before the event and navigate an unmarked route to locate hidden books. Runners tear a page from each found book that matches their bib number. Completing five loops under the time cutoffs with all required pages constitutes an official finish; it is also permitted to stop after completing a single loop.
Course conditions include creek crossings twice per loop, frequent downed trees, grass, rocks, underbrush, burning nettle and thorny vegetation. Expect ticks and possible wet crossings. The organizers advise covering exposed skin, for example long pants and a shirt; goggles are optional. The organizers will not provide course markings, so a compass and basic navigation skills are required. There are no refunds. Participants under 18 must obtain permission from the organizers before registering and organizers reserve the right to refuse registration of a minor.
