LøpeBirken
LøpeBirken is a multi-distance trail running festival held in and around Lillehammer. The event includes several race formats with start areas at Birkebeineren Skistadion and Sjusjøen for the longer mountain races. Distinct races use marked forest trails, grusveier and sections with rock and root terrain.
Distances offered:
- 7.5 km Birken Aktiv mot kreft
- 12 km HalvBirken løp
- 21 km Birkebeinerløpet
- 42 km Birken fjellmaraton
- 60 km UltraBirken løp
- UngdomsBirken (ca. 5 km) and BarneBirken (various shorter distances)
Practical details: there is parking at Birkebeineren Skistadion and on the field above Håkons Hall (parking fee applies). Bus services include direct buses from Oslo to the start area, shuttle buses from Håkons Hall to start, and specific buses to Sjusjøen for Ultra and fjellmaraton. Bag drop is available at the start with collection in the finish area; UltraBirken and fjellmaraton have marked droppsoner.
Safety and rules: participants aged 13–80 must have a Norwegian Athletics (NFIF) licence or buy an event engangslisens (the 7.5 km event includes engangslisens in the entry fee). Headphones and pets are not allowed on the course. Start numbers must be visible; specific shoe sole limits apply for terrengløp with exceptions for mountain races. UltraBirken requires a mandatory pack with basic equipment.
Food and timing: drink and food stations serve Maxim sportsdrikk, water, banana and local items; on-course nutrition and finish refreshments are included in the entry fee. All finishers receive a medal; timed participants can download tiddiplom. Prize ceremonies are held in Håkons Hall. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
