2026 Loonie Loops
Loonie Loops is a trail running event held at the YMCA Glenn Carpenter Centre in Saint John, New Brunswick. The race takes place on a 3 km loop around Ashburn Lake, situated entirely on private land. Each lap features 90 meters of climbing and descending on moderately technical trails. The course includes a climb to a lookout point offering views of Ashburn Lake and Loon Island.
Participants can select from three time-based categories:
- 6 hours (The Walloon)
- 12 hours (The Guinea Duck)
- 24 hours (The Hell-Diver)
A team option called "Three is Key" is available for groups of three runners. To compete in this challenge, one teammate must participate in each of the three time categories. The team's final score is calculated by combining the total laps completed by all three members at the end of the 24-hour period.
The event provides a fully stocked aid station every 3 km. Participants and their crews may camp or set up personal aid stations the night before the event for a fee. Please note that there are no shower facilities on-site. The event supports the YMCA Strong Communities Fund.
Registration includes a swag bag, access to the aid station, and a BBQ party with live bands. There is no race day registration, and all entries must be completed online in advance. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
