Loonie Loops
Loonie Loops is a timed trail event held on a private 3.1 km loop around Ashburn Lake in Saint John, New Brunswick. The loop gains and loses about 90 m per lap on moderately technical trail, with most climbing concentrated on a short hill that leads to a lookout over Ashburn Lake and Loon island. The property is rented exclusively for the event, so the trails are reserved for participants during the race.
Event options:
- 6 hour event
- 12 hour event
- 24 hour event
Race headquarters is at the YMCA Glenn Carpenter Centre. The HQ area offers space for runners and crew to set up optional aid stations or tents, and an organized aid spread is provided for participants as described in the athlete guide. Parking is located roughly 200 to 600 m from the start/finish. On-site camping is available the night before for a $10 fee, with proceeds going to the YMCA Strong Communities Fund. In addition, $10 from every entry is donated to that fund.
A team option called "Three is Key" registers three individual runners : one in each time category : and combines their laps after 24 hours to determine team totals. The top two teams receive awards from the event organizer. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
