Loonie Loops

Loonie Loops is a trail running event held at the YMCA Glenn Carpenter Centre in Saint John, New Brunswick. The race takes place on a 3.1 km loop around Ashburn Lake, situated on a 220-acre private property. Each lap features 90 meters of climbing and descending on moderately technical trails, including a hill that leads to a lookout over Ashburn Lake and Loon Island.

Participants can select from three different time-based categories:

  • 6 hours
  • 12 hours
  • 24 hours

The event includes a team challenge called "Three is Key." Teams consist of three runners, with one participant in each of the three time categories. Each athlete registers individually, and the final team score is determined by the total number of combined laps completed at the end of the 24-hour period.

The race headquarters, located at the start and finish area, provides ample space for runners and their support crews to set up personal aid stations or tents. A central aid station with various food options is also available. Parking is located between 200 and 600 meters from the main site. On-site camping is offered the night before the event for an additional fee. A portion of every entry fee is donated to the YMCA Strong Communities Fund. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
