Lookout Mountain Trail Race - December 19, 2026
Held at Lookout Mountain, Georgia, the event is organized by Wild Trails and begins atop the mountain at the Covenant College campus near 13292 Scenic Highway. The venue uses predominantly single-track trails with varied terrain.
Distances offered:
- 50 mile
- 18 mile
- 10K
The course includes a mix of steep climbs, highly runnable sections and moderate descents. The 50 mile and 18 mile routes share the same course for the first 18 miles. The route crosses or follows at least five creeks and passes through Lula Lake Land Trust, moving through rhododendron, mixed hardwood and hemlock forests and by the 120 foot Lula Falls. The course also navigates two exposed bluff lines with long views; on a clear day five states may be visible from one section.
Aid stations provide hot soup, camp fires at night and Southern-style hospitality. The 10K starts with flat, faster running on college cross country trails for the first couple miles, then shifts to narrow creekside trails with a few steep climbs; it is described as a demanding short course for trail newcomers.
Online registration closes in mid-December or when maximum fields are reached. Race fees range roughly from $38.50 to $103.43. Wild Trails membership gives a 10 percent discount; Trail Steward membership grants free entry to three races except the Upchuck 50K. Race proceeds benefit Wild Trails, a 501(c)(3) focused on local trail use and protection. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
