Lookout Mountain Trail Race
The Lookout Mountain Trail Race is a set of trail events held on and around the Covenant College campus atop Lookout Mountain in Lookout Mountain, GA. The event offers multiple race distances and predominantly single track trails that include climbs, runnable sections, and moderate descents.
Distances include:
- 50 Miler
- 18 Miler
- 10K
The 50 and 18 mile courses share the same route for the first 18 miles. The course crosses or follows at least five creeks and passes through Lula Lake Land Trust, which features rhododendron, mixed hardwood and Hemlock forests and the 120 foot Lula Falls. Runners encounter two exposed bluff lines that provide extensive views; on a clear day up to five states can be seen from one section of trail.
Aid stations provide hot soup, evening camp fires, and local hospitality. The 10K begins with a couple of flat miles on college cross country trails, then moves to narrow scenic trails along two creeks with a couple of steep climbs; the course is noted as suitable for hiking by those new to trail running.
The event is organized by Wild Trails. Race proceeds benefit Wild Trails, a 501(c)(3) organization focused on the use, protection and expansion of nature trails in the greater Chattanooga area. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
