L+M Hospital Summer Stride
The L+M Hospital Summer Stride is a community road race event held in New London, featuring multiple distances along a scenic coastal route. The event is open to participants of all ages and abilities, including competitive runners, casual joggers, walkers, and families with strollers.
Participants can choose from several race distances:
- 10 km
- 5 km
- 1/2 mile (Kids ages 2-11)
- 1/4 mile (Kids ages 2-11)
The course is primarily flat and follows Pequot Avenue, providing views of the ocean. The 10 km distance consists of a double loop with long straightaways designed for a fast pace. The 5 km route also offers a relatively flat and scenic experience for both runners and walkers.
Registered participants receive a technical short-sleeve shirt, and a cold treat is provided to finishers after the race. This event serves as the final leg of the Spring Shoreline Challenge, a multi-race series including the Rocky Neck Runfest and the Mystic Half Marathon & 10K. Those who complete the challenge receive a commemorative medal at this location.
The event supports local initiatives, including the School Food Pantry Program at CT State Community College Three Rivers. Attendees are encouraged to bring nonperishable food donations to the designated collection tent. Proceeds also benefit the Susie Beris, MD Youth Running Program.
