Lliswerry 8
The Lliswerry 8 is an eight mile road race organised by Lliswerry Runners that has been held for four decades. The course runs through the flat rural edges of Newport, following country lanes around Goldcliff and Nash villages. The route starts at Lliswerry Secondary School on Nash Road, includes an approximately one mile outward section, a six mile loop, then retraces the initial mile back past the start to the finish to total 8 miles. The event is held on closed roads and a lead car precedes the field to warn traffic.
Marshals provide course support and encouragement along the route. Bottled water is provided at mile four and at the finish. The finish is located past the start line through gates and is marked by a large arch; times are recorded as runners cross and bibs must be clearly visible at the finish. The event can supply only the t-shirt size ordered on the entry form.
Parking is available within the sports village at the Stadium, Tennis Centre and Velodrome; there is no parking at the start line or nearby streets. Multiple toilet facilities are available on the campus, with limited portable units near the start. There is no bag drop and the use of headphones, including bone conductors, is not permitted. Transfers and entry amendments are subject to the organiser’s published deadlines. Awards for individual and team categories are issued after the event.
