Event Overview

Little Bitty Backyard is a trail running event held at the Wildlands Conservancy South Mountain Preserve in Emmaus, Pennsylvania, on June 13, 2026. The venue address is 101 Klines Ln, Emmaus, PA 18049.

The main format is a backyard ultra, described as a "last person standing" race. Participants run a loop every hour. Anyone who does not start the next loop on time is out. The event continues until only one runner remains and the other finalist fails or stops.

Each participant in the backyard race receives a 10×10 ft space for a tent or transition area and may have crew for support, but no pacers are allowed. The event is described as multi-day, with additional races held during the backyard ultra.

Races and Course

The backyard loop is about 4.4 miles long with 550+ ft of elevation gain. It takes place on trail terrain that is described as more difficult than a standard backyard course. Loops start on the hour, and finishing early gives runners transition time before the next start.

Two additional events take place on the same course or at the same venue:

  • Blackout - a nighttime race using one loop of the backyard course.
  • Best Day Beer Mile - a non-alcoholic beer mile using one Best Day Brew per quarter mile, in traditional beer mile format.

Blackout and the Beer Mile are chip timed. The backyard ultra is not chip timed, as overall loop times are not important for the format.

Environmental and Charity Aspects

Little Bitty Backyard is organized as a zero carbon event. The organizer includes a fee in registration to offset carbon emissions related to hosting the race and participants’ travel. The offset is arranged through a partner organization.

The event also collects monetary donations for Wildlands Conservancy and accepts gently worn, used, or new shoes for the Sneakers 4 Good program. Funds raised through shoe donations support Wildlands Conservancy. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
