The Lighthouse Marathon and Ultra
The Lighthouse is a coastal marathon event in Cornwall organised by Bys Vyken Events and based at Sunset Surf Cafe, Gwithian TR27 5ED (geo 50.182, -5.403). The course follows exposed coastal paths and combines mixed surfaces and significant climbing.
The route description in the event information specifies two main options, with coastal sections that include mud, water, rocks, sand and tarmac. The course passes Pendeen and reaches Godrevy lighthouse after 26 miles. The Ultra begins at Lands End Longships Lighthouse, runs the 10 miles to join at Pendeen, then continues for 25 miles to the finish. The route includes dunes and large climbs, with over 4000 feet of total ascent; the Ultra adds about 1800 feet more.
Organisers allow crew access but prohibit support runners on course. Entries include affiliated and non‑affiliated categories and separate Ultra entries with stated entry fees. Refunds are available up to four weeks before the start and deferrals up to two weeks before; deferrals are not refundable at the subsequent race. If the Met Office issues an Amber or Red weather warning the race cannot go ahead; if rescheduling is not possible the event may be held virtually. The event information also notes a generous cut‑off time that can result in participants finishing in the dark. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
