Cornwall Coastal Endurance Event
The Lighthouse Marathon and Ultra is a coastal running event held in Cornwall. The course utilizes the coast path, featuring a mix of terrain including rocks, sand, mud, and tarmac. Participants can expect significant elevation changes, with the marathon route including over 4,000 feet of height gain. The ultra distance includes an additional 1,800 feet of elevation.
The event offers two primary distances:
- Marathon: A 26 mile route starting from Pendeen and finishing at the Godrevy lighthouse.
- Ultra: A 35 mile or 36 mile route starting at Lands End (Longships Lighthouse).
The ultra distance begins at Lands End and covers 10 miles before joining the marathon course at Pendeen Lighthouse. The finish line for both distances is located at the Sunset Surf Cafe in Gwithian, which is situated near the Godrevy lighthouse.
Due to the terrain and timing, participants may experience varied weather conditions, including rain, as well as diminishing light levels. The event takes place in November, and the cut-off times are set such that many participants will finish after dark. The race is permit-sanctioned by the ARC. Mandatory kit requirements apply, and kit list coats are available for hire from the organizers.
