The Lighthouse Marathon and Ultra
The Lighthouse Marathon and Ultra take place on 6 November 2027 near Gwithian, Cornwall, with event base at Sunset Surf Cafe. The organiser is Bys Vyken Events. An Ultra distance was added from 2025.
Distances included in the event:
- Marathon: 26 miles, Pendeen to Godrevy lighthouse
- Ultra: starts at Lands End Longships Lighthouse, joins at Pendeen then 25 miles more
The course follows the coastal path and includes rocks, sand, tarmac, mud and water. The route features large climbs and dunes, with over 4000 feet of total ascent and the Ultra adding a further 1800 feet. Weather conditions may include rain and reduced light levels along the coast.
Cut off times are generous and can result in competitors finishing after dark; the organisers note the final obstacle is to beat the lighting of the lighthouse. Crew are allowed on the route but support runners are not permitted. The event holds ARC permit number ARC/27/.
Entry options include affiliated and non affiliated entries and separate Ultra entries with differing fees. Refunds are available up to four weeks before the start date and deferrals up to two weeks before the start date; deferrals are not refundable at a subsequent race. If an Amber or Red Met Office weather warning is issued the race cannot proceed and will be rescheduled or held virtually if rescheduling is not possible.
