The Lighthouse Marathon and Ultra
The Lighthouse Marathon and Ultra is a coastal running event in Gwithian, Cornwall, scheduled for 6 November 2027, with the event base at Sunset Surf Cafe, TR27 5ED. The course follows exposed coastal paths and tracks that include rock, sand and tarmac under varied weather.
The event offers two main route options:
- Marathon: Pendeen to Godrevy lighthouse, 26 miles
- Ultra: starts at Lands End Longships Lighthouse, includes 10 miles to Pendeen then 25 miles to the finish
Terrain features include mud, water crossings, dunes and large climbs. The standard course involves over 4,000 feet of ascent and the Ultra adds an additional 1,800 feet of climb. Organisers provide a generous cut-off time, but many runners may finish in the dark when the lighthouse is lit.
Safety and operational notes in the event terms include a prohibition on support runners on course while crew are permitted, a requirement that entrants be medically fit and suitably equipped, and liability waivers. If an Amber or Red weather warning is issued by the national weather service, the event cannot go ahead on site; organisers will attempt to reschedule or hold the event virtually.
Entry administration details specify refunds up to four weeks before the event and deferral up to two weeks before the event, with deferrals not refundable at a subsequent race. ARC permit number ARC/27 is recorded for the event. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
