The Lighthouse Marathon and Ultra
The event on Saturday 6 November 2027 is a coastal running event based at Sunset Surf Cafe, Gwithian TR27 5ED, organised by Bys Vyken Events. It includes a marathon route along the coastpath and a longer ultra route that starts further west.
The marathon follows the coast from Pendeen past the lighthouse to Godrevy lighthouse, a distance given as 26 miles. The ultra starts at Longships Lighthouse near Lands End, runs the ten miles to Pendeen and then continues for a further 25 miles to the same finish, a total of 35 miles as described.
Terrain includes rocks, sand and tarmac with mud and water likely in places. The course has large climbs and dunes, with over 4000 feet of total ascent; the ultra adds a further 1800 feet of gain. Organiser rules allow crew but not support runners on course. New ARC guidelines require people to be aged 20 or over to enter the ultra. The event holds an ARC permit ARC/27/.
Refund and deferral terms are stated: refunds up to four weeks before the start, and deferrals up to two weeks before the start, noting deferrals cannot be refunded at the subsequent race. If the Met Office issues an Amber or Red weather warning the race cannot go ahead and may be rescheduled or held virtually. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
