The Lighthouse Marathon and Ultra

The Lighthouse Marathon and Ultra takes place in Cornwall, offering two coastal distances through varied and demanding terrain. The course follows the coast path, crossing surfaces that include rocks, sand, tarmac, and dunes. Participants can choose between two main distances:

  • Marathon (approximately 26 miles)
  • Ultra Marathon (approximately 36 miles)

The marathon route begins in Pendeen and travels past the local lighthouse before concluding at Godrevy lighthouse. This route includes over 4,000 feet of total elevation gain. The ultra marathon distance begins at Land's End, near the Longships Lighthouse, traveling 10 miles before joining the marathon course at Pendeen. The ultra distance features an additional 1,800 feet of climbing, totaling approximately 5,800 feet of height gain.

Participants encounter environmental factors such as mud, water, and potential rain. Due to the timing of the event and the provided cut-off limits, some participants will finish the course after dark. The event is held under ARC permit numbers ARC/26/0039 and ARC/26/0040.

The finish area is located at Sunset Surf Cafe in Gwithian. Registration is open to both affiliated and non-affiliated runners. Support crews are permitted to assist participants, though support runners are not allowed on the course. In the event of an Amber or Red weather warning from the Met Office, the physical event may be rescheduled or held as a virtual run. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
