Light Up the Dark 5K
The Light Up the Dark 5K is an evening running event held at the Cameron Park Zoo in Waco, Texas. This annual glow-in-the-dark run serves to raise funds and awareness for anti-human trafficking efforts. Participants can choose between several in-person and virtual options to support the cause.
The event features the following distances:
- 5K
- 1K
- 5K Sofa Edition (Virtual)
- 1K Sofa Edition (Virtual)
The in-person event at the zoo includes various activities beyond the race. Attendees can access food trucks, music, games, and photo booths. During the early evening, zoo experiences remain open for participants, and a local wellness center leads group stretches. Individuals who are not participating in a race but wish to enter the zoo to support runners must obtain a Spectator Zoo Pass.
All registered participants receive a finisher medal, glow gear, and a race t-shirt. For those choosing the virtual "Sofa Edition," a glow box containing gear is sent by mail to allow participation from any location. The event is open to all registration types, including individuals and teams who wish to set fundraising goals. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
