MOTTEP LIFE Walk & Run
LIFE Walk & Run is the signature event of the Detroit MOTTEP Foundation that promotes organ and tissue donation and brings together transplant communities. The event began in 1997 to promote National Minority Donor Awareness Day and has been held at Belle Isle State Park for many years. Organizers note that the gathering has drawn more than 1.3 million participants from domestic and international locations and has directly impacted thousands of lives.
The event is presented in partnership with Gift of Life Michigan and multiple community partners. For 2026 the event location is listed as Rouge Park in Detroit and the date is Saturday, August 1, 2026. Participant services and event features described by organizers include a race T-shirt, a finisher medal for all participants, special placement medals by age category for male and female divisions, race day finishing photos, and electronic chip timing.
Additional on-site features include a free health fair, the LIFE Walk Cafe, a Circle of Life Garden, a Kid’s Corner, Sebastian’s Corner, and donor family teams. Volunteers support event operations and fundraising is part of the event structure, with a campaign tied to the annual walk and run. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
