Lewis Park & Trails Full Moon Trail Run - September 26, 2026
The 14th Annual Full Moon Trail Run at Lewis Park & Trails in Springfield, Illinois is scheduled for September 26, 2026. The event is organized by a nonprofit board that maintains the park; participation is free and donations are encouraged to support trail upkeep and park maintenance.
Distances:
- 3.0 miles off-road run through prairie and wooded trails
- 1.0 mile family-friendly walk loop
The run is approximately 3 miles on marked, lightly technical trails that pass through prairie and woods; participants should watch for roots, ruts, and occasional logs. The walk is an approximately 1 mile loop. Routes will be posted on Facebook. A good flashlight or headlamp is required. Reflective clothing, neon items, and glow sticks are recommended for visibility.
There are no water stations along the route; participants may take a bottle at check-in. One portable toilet is available on-site. Parking is limited; available parking includes the Lewis Park & Trails lot and the Koke Mill Christian Church lot. Do not park on the grass. The event takes place rain or shine and will only be canceled for unsafe conditions.
Additional notes: no official timing is provided; plan to run about one to two minutes slower per mile than usual road pace. The first 200 participants are accepted, and on-site registration is possible if the limit is not yet reached. The first 150 pre-registered participants who check in will receive a commemorative item while supplies last. Trail etiquette requests that participants announce "PASSING" when overtaking others, yield when slower, and avoid littering. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
