Event overview
The Lenape Trail Run on Mar 7, 2026 is an out-and-back style route that covers 34 miles along the Lenape Trail in New Jersey. The meeting point is at the Locust Grove trailhead in South Mountain Reservation, with an initial train segment to Broad Street in Newark to position runners at the trail's eastern area. The run finishes back at the cars in the South Mountain area.
Route and support
The course follows the Lenape Trail, which is marked by yellow blazes and changes between sidewalks, surfaced trails, dirt trails, and aqueducts. The route passes through Newark’s Ironbound and Downtown Newark, Branch Brook Park, Belleville, Nutley, Bloomfield, Brookdale Park, Mills Reservation, Verona and Verona Park, Eagle Rock Reservation and other former railroad corridors before returning via a southern side trail to South Mountain Reservation. The trail passes the Eagle Rock lookout with views of the New York skyline and crosses infrastructure such as a pedestrian bridge over the Garden State Parkway and under I-280.
This event is self-supported. Participants are expected to carry their own gear and nutrition for the full distance. There will be some dropped aid and access to stores along parts of the route.
