Event Format
The Leaky Hourglass Ultra is a Last Man Standing running event. Participants run repeated laps of a 4.167-mile out-and-back course. The unique rule is that the time allowed to complete each lap decreases by one minute per lap, starting with 60 minutes for the first lap. The event continues until only one runner finishes a lap within the allotted time.
Course
The course is on a rural highway with a chip and seal surface and features rolling hills. Each lap involves roughly 250 feet of elevation gain. The course is not closed to traffic. Runners must run facing traffic and are required to use a headlamp and flasher after sunset.
Aid Stations
There are two aid stations.
- Start/Finish: A manned station offering Tailwind Endurance Fuel, water, chips, pickles, candy bars, and various other hot and cold food options.
- Turnaround Point: An unmanned station with Tailwind Endurance Fuel, water, and prepackaged snacks in a tote.
