The route features one significant hill and passes by the first state capitol before returning to the finish line.
The 1 mile and youth races are staged on the crushed limestone horse track located at the Fairgrounds. The elite mile events offer prize money for the top three male and female finishers. The community mile is chip timed, while the youth 1/2 mile is an untimed fun run consisting of one lap around the track. For children ages 8 and under, the Hobby Horse Hundred includes a custom hobby horse for participants to keep.
