Event overview

The Lead the Way Race Day 2026 takes place on Saturday, May 2, 2026, at the Fairgrounds in Corydon, Indiana (341 S Capitol Ave, Corydon, IN 47112). The event program includes multiple distances and youth activities:

  • Mile - Women's Elite Mile with prize money
  • Mile - Men's Elite Mile with prize money
  • Mile - Community Mile Race (chip timed)
  • 0.5 mile - Youth half-mile on the horse track (ages 3-10)
  • 100 m - Hobby Horse Hundred for ages 1-5
  • 100 m - Hobby Horse Hundred for ages 6-8
  • 5 km - Community 5k loop course

Course, awards and fees

The 5k is a loop from the Fairgrounds that uses Indian Creek Trail and runs through historic downtown Corydon. The route includes one large hill, sections of gravel, a creekside trail, and road running past the first state capitol before returning to the finish. Mile and youth races occur on the crushed limestone horse track at the Fairgrounds.

Top three finishers in the men's and women's elite mile races receive $100, $50 and $25. Age group winners in other races receive an engraved julep glass and a Derby Day rose. Fees vary by event; age-based discounts apply for the Community 5k (children 10 and under free, ages 11-17 reduced fee). Online registration closes the evening of May 1, 2026; race day registration carries an extra $5 per race. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
