About the race
Last Wolf Howling is a Last Person Standing running event scheduled for November 21, 2026 at Petal River Park in Petal, MS (784 US-11). The course is a loop of 4.167 miles on wooded, mostly shaded single-track and some dirt gravel road with minimal elevation change and a few bumpy spots. The exact route is in development and may vary for day, night, or wet-weather conditions; a GPX file may not be provided.
The format follows the backyard ultra concept: runners complete the 4.167-mile loop once each hour and must finish each loop within a 60-minute limit. Runners continue looping hourly until they are unable to complete a loop or decide to stop; the event continues until only one runner remains able to complete a loop. Twenty-four hours of continuous loops equals 100 miles, and runners who attain 100 miles or more within 24 hours will receive a buckle from Sheriden Buckle Co. Every runner who completes at least one loop will receive a finisher medal. No DNFs will be issued; entrants are ranked by mileage completed.
Event amenities include a staffed start/finish aid station with meals, snacks, and drinks, porto potties, and space for crew tents near the start area. There will be a designated tent area for uncrewed solo runners. Pacers are not allowed and no on-course crewing or handed assistance is permitted; runners may receive aid from other runners. Refund and credit policies are available through registration options; entrants receive credit to future Rougarou events in the case of major cancellation.
