Event overview
Last Fool Standing is a multi-format trail running event held the weekend of March 28-29, 2026 in Port Gamble, WA. The main loop is a roughly 5K+ trail that participants run repeatedly. Prizes are offered for several formats, including a cash prize for the Last Fool format equal to 10% of the total registrations for that event (example given: if 10 people register, prize = $222 and it increases by $22 per additional runner).
Race formats
Formats include:
- Last Fool Standing: run the 5K+ loop every hour.
- 48-hour endurance: complete as many loops as desired within 48 hours; award for overall mileage leader.
- 24-hour endurance: a 24-hour time limit; awards for mileage leaders in each heat.
- 12-hour sessions: separate day and overnight 12-hour sessions with awards for mileage leaders.
Course and support
The course uses the Port Gamble Heritage Trails and consists of singletrack, some rolling hills, and wider trail sections. The loop is described as slightly longer than 5K to ensure a true 5K+ distance. A fully stocked aid station is located at the start/finish with hydration, snacks, and hot food during night hours. Crew and volunteers are allowed in designated support zones.
Location and camping
Event basecamp and start/finish are at the airfield parking area at Port Gamble Trails. Onsite primitive camping will be available, and nearby lodging options are listed in Kingston, Poulsbo, and Port Gamble. Volunteer roles are available for those not running.
