Laramie Peak Endurance Challenge : Friend Park Campground, Douglas, WY
The Laramie Peak Endurance Challenge is a mountain running event held from Friend Park Campground in Medicine Bow National Forest near Douglas, Wyoming. Three participation formats are offered: a 24-hour mountain endurance format where runners complete as many full summit laps as possible, a 12-hour challenge, and a single-summit option.
The route climbs from Friend Park through dense pine, rocky mule deer paths, narrow ridgelines, and granite outcrops to near 10,000 feet. The course is remote, technical, and steep, with a typical lap of about 9 miles and nearly 3,000 feet of vertical gain and loss. Runners should expect high altitude and rapidly changing mountain weather.
Basecamp at Friend Park Campground serves as the only aid station on course and includes water, electrolytes, coffee, fresh fruit, snacks, made-to-order hot food such as burgers and pancakes, drop-bag space, crew access, and overnight fire pits when allowed. On-site medical coverage is provided by the Douglas Volunteer Fire Department.
The event partners with the Warrior Trail Foundation, which uses trail running and fast-packing in programs that support veterans and their family members through coaching and personal connections aimed at building resilience. Recommended equipment includes adequate water capacity, warm layers, a reliable headlamp, trail shoes with rock traction, and personal nutrition and blister care.
