Event format

The Laramie Peak Endurance Challenge is a mountain running event in Douglas, Wyoming, based at Friend Park Campground in Medicine Bow National Forest. The event offers three formats: a 24-hour mountain endurance format where participants complete as many full summit laps as possible within 24 hours, a 12-hour challenge with a rolling start window, and a Single Summit challenge with a single ascent and descent and a rolling start window. In the 24-hour format, ties are broken by total miles covered. Every finisher receives a commemorative award. The event partners with the Warrior Trail Foundation to support veterans through trail running programs.

Course, aid and safety

The route climbs from Friend Park through dense pine, narrow ridgelines and granite outcrops to near 10,000 feet. A lap is about 9 miles with nearly 3,000 feet of vertical gain and loss. The course is rugged, technical, steep and remote; runners should expect high altitude and rapidly changing mountain weather. The only aid station and event hub is the basecamp at Friend Park Campground, which provides water, electrolytes, coffee, fruit, snacks, made-to-order hot food, drop-bag space, crew access and overnight fire pits when allowed. On-site medical coverage is provided by the Douglas Volunteer Fire Department. Recommended gear includes a running vest or pack with 1.5–2 L water capacity, headlamp with backup, warm layers, trail shoes with rock traction, trekking poles, and an emergency layer. Nutrition planning guidance suggests about 200–300 calories per hour. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
