Course and logistics
All distances begin along the Kentucky Lake shoreline at Lighthouse Landing and proceed about 2 miles to the Land Between the Lakes trailhead. The main Canal Loop is approximately 11.3 miles, mostly single-track on packed dirt. The loop features rolling hills on the Lake Barkley side and larger hills on the Kentucky Lake side, with views of both lakes. Trail markings: the Canal Loop uses blue markers; yellow markers identify connector trails labeled A, B, C, D. Distance formats on the course: the 23 km runs one loop, the Marathon two loops, the 60 km three loops, and the 50 mile four loops plus a 0.62 mile out-and-back after the fourth loop. There is a 12 hour time limit and final-loop cutoff rules; missing cutoffs may result in being directed to finish at Grand Rivers and receive the award for the distance completed. Dogs are not allowed with participants. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
