Event overview
The Land Between the Lakes - The Great American Trail Race takes place on Saturday, March 14, 2026, in Grand Rivers, KY. The event offers four distance options:
- 50 mile
- 60km
- Marathon
- 23km
All distances begin together along the shoreline of Kentucky Lake at Lighthouse Landing and proceed by road to the Land Between the Lakes trailhead. The race uses the Canal Loop as the primary course.
Course and logistics
The Canal Loop is approximately 11.3 miles, mostly single-track on a packed dirt surface. The loop has rolling hills on the Lake Barkley side and larger hills on the Kentucky Lake side, with clear views of both lakes along parts of the course. Course markers: the Canal Loop is marked with blue markers; yellow lettered markers indicate connector trails. There is a short section where white and blue markers appear together.
Loop structure by distance: the 23km is one loop, the marathon is two loops, the 60k is three loops, and the 50 mile is four loops plus a 0.62 mile out-and-back after the fourth loop. A staff member will be located at the end of the loop to assist runners. Dogs are not allowed to run or walk with participants. Packet pick-up is at the Grand Rivers Community Center; a Friday pasta dinner is provided and post-race food is offered by the Grand Rivers community. Race parking may require walking up to about half a mile from parked cars. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
