About the race
The New Year Trail Challenge is a multi-distance trail running event held at Canyon of the Eagles near Lake Travis in Burnet, Texas on January 1 and 2, 2027. The program includes ultramarathon distances as well as shorter trail races and a kids race, all run on park trails that highlight river views and natural terrain.
Aid stations along the course will be stocked with hydration, a range of snacks, and medical assistance. The event follows eco-friendly and Leave No Trace principles; participants and visitors are asked to stay on marked trails, pack out all trash, avoid feeding wildlife, and minimize campfire impacts. Animals are not allowed at the event.
Race registration includes park entry for the participant; additional spectator fees apply with general admission listed and reduced or free options for children and certain seniors and veterans. Camping is available at a limited number of campsites on a first-come, first-served basis. Packet pickup is offered on race day at the start/finish area.
Custom finisher medals will be awarded to all finishers. Due to event preparation, refunds are not offered; the organizer may cancel or reschedule the event for severe weather or other circumstances beyond its control.
