Lake Murray Sprint Triathlon
The event takes place at Dreher Island State Park in Prosperity, South Carolina on April 18, 2027. It is part of the South Carolina Triathlon Series and offers multiple race options including a sprint triathlon, a sprint relay, an aquabike, and an aquathlon.
Race formats and course notes:
- Sprint Triathlon: swim 750 meters, bike 16 miles, run 5 kilometers.
- Aquabike: swim 750 meters, bike 16 miles.
- Aquathlon: swim 750 meters, run 5 kilometers.
The swim is a single clockwise 750 meter loop in the lake. Wetsuits are legal, with expected water temperatures in the low to mid 70s. Depending on wind conditions, swimmers may encounter light to moderate chop and a small current.
The bike is a single 16 mile loop on rural roads. Road surfaces are generally good with a few rough areas. The course has five turns that are marked with pavement arrows and directional signs; police and volunteers staff key intersections.
The 5 kilometer run is a one loop course with several out-and-back spurs, allowing athletes to see other competitors during the race. The run is described as relatively flat and shaded.
Registration opens October 1, 2026 and closes December 31, 2026. Published entry fees are $90 for the sprint triathlon, $160 for the sprint relay, and $70 for both aquabike and aquathlon. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
