Lake Merced Half Marathon & 4.5 Mile Run
The event takes place at Lake Merced on September 27, 2026, with start and finish located at the north Lake Merced parking lot at the foot of Sunset Boulevard. Both races follow the lake perimeter on the jogging and pedestrian path and run clockwise.
- Half Marathon: three clockwise loops around the lake
- 4.5 mile run: one clockwise loop around the lake
The half marathon course uses three loops with the first loop shortened by crossing the east side of the drawbridge at the southern end of the lake. There is at least one aid station per 4.5 mile loop offering Water and Nuun near the start and finish area. A water fountain is located in the parking lot near the picnic tables on John Muir Drive at about 2.5 miles. Runners who require more frequent hydration are advised to carry a water bottle to refill at each loop.
