Lake Martin 50/50

Lake Martin 50/50 is a trail ultramarathon held on Russell Forest Lands near Lake Martin in Alexander City, Alabama. The event offers two distances and runs entirely on private land through singletrack, double wide carriage trails, and sandy dry soil. Terrain features rolling hills, roots, and sections with large crushed granite; climbs are generally short and rolling with a few steep pitches and one longer climb of about 200 ft up to the Heaven Hill aid station.

Distances

• 50 Mile - two full 25.09 mile laps; north 18.6 mi and south 6.4 mi
• 50K - one 25.09 mile loop plus the south 6.4 mile loop again

Course format uses a figure eight pattern that returns runners frequently to the Start/Finish area and Heaven Hill aid station. Each 25 mile loop includes four aid station stops: two at Heaven Hill and two at The Cabin. Drop bags are allowed at Heaven Hill and Cabin/Start Finish. The organizer provides well stocked aid stations with water, Tailwind, snacks, and expanded real food options for overnight hours.

Course marking relies on blue flags and reflective tape with flags spaced about 150 yards apart; runners are advised to carry a GPX file or map as a backup. The event is cupless so runners must bring a bottle or cup. Required gear highlights include adequate hydration capacity, visible race bib, headlamp and backup light for low light, charged phone, and basic personal supplies. Pacers are permitted only for 50 Mile runners after the first lap. Awards are given for overall and age group places as specified by the organizer.
