Lake Martin 50/50, Alexander City, AL

The Lake Martin 50/50 is a trail ultramarathon organized by Southeastern Trail Runs at Russell Lands, part of the Russell Forest Trail System near Lake Martin. It offers two main race distances and is described as intended for runners moving from shorter distances or road marathons to their first 50K or 50 Mile event.

The course is a 25.09-mile loop on private trail land with rolling terrain and shoreline scenery. Each full loop contains over 3,000 feet of elevation gain. Most hills are short and under 100 feet, with one longer half-mile ascent called Heaven Hill that gains about 200 feet. Trails are generally non-technical and runnable, though runners should watch for roots and sections with fist-sized granite chunks.

Each full loop is split into a North Loop (18.6 miles) and a South Loop (6.4 miles), with aid at a central Cabin Aid Station between sections. Aid station support per 25-mile loop includes four stops, two at the Heaven Hill Aid Station and two at The Cabin Aid Station, providing water, electrolytes, grab-and-go snacks, and hot food. A medic will be present at the start/finish area.

Logistics noted by the organizer include packet pick up during the weekend before and on race morning, a shirt order cutoff of February 14, and that registration closes in early March with no race-day registration. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
