About the race
Lake Macquarie Triathlon Festival and New U Run is a two-day multisport event at Speers Point Park on the shores of Lake Macquarie. The programme includes running-only events on Saturday and triathlon, aquabike and aquathlon events on Sunday, plus junior races across several age groups. Swim legs use calm, protected lake water with deep-water starts from the jetty (juniors excepted); cycle legs run on closed sections of The Esplanade; runs follow the lakeside foreshore path.
Event distances include:
- New U Run: 10 km, 5 km, 2 km
- Standard Triathlon: 1.5 km swim, 40 km cycle, 10 km run
- Sprint Triathlon: 750 m swim, 20 km cycle, 5 km run
- Super Sprint Triathlon: 250 m swim, 13 km cycle, 2.5 km run
- Aquabike and Aquathlon distance variations and junior race distances are specified for each age group
Prize money is awarded to overall male and female winners in Sprint and Standard Distance triathlon events, with published amounts for first to third places. A tiered refund policy applies: up to six weeks before the event 70% refund, six weeks to 14 days 40% refund, and no refunds within 14 days.
