FreshChoice Lake Dunstan Trail Marathon
The event runs along the Lake Dunstan Cycling and Walking Trail between Historic Clyde and the Cromwell Heritage Precinct. Distances offered are:
- 42.2 km Marathon from Historic Clyde to Cromwell Heritage Precinct
- 21.1 km Half Marathon with a short boat transfer to the start north of Hugo Bridge
- 10 km Race starting at Carrick Winery by the Bannockburn Inlet
The trail surface is a well groomed, firm packed cycle trail. Recorded elevation over the full distance is about 650 m, about 200 m for the half marathon and less than 100 m for the 10 km. Aid stations are positioned about every 4 km and supply water, Tailwind electrolyte fuel, chips and lollies. Runners receive a reusable collapsible silicone cup in the race pack; the cup and race number are the only required kit items. Marshals will refill cups; runners may also use a vest or soft flasks.
The course remains open to other trail users, including cyclists and walkers. Medical coverage includes medics at fixed points plus roaming medics on e-bikes and on the lake. GPS tracking updates competitor positions every minute and participants must carry a cell phone for tracking. Entry includes a finishers medal and food and drink vouchers at the finish. Portions of entry fees support local not for profit community groups and trail maintenance. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
